Overview
I volunteered to design a poster for Alan Collinge and Student Loan Justice on the student loan debt crisis. After creating numerous sketches, I came up with the tagline "Go to college they said, take out loans they said" as a reference to different generations constantly being told college was the only way to "make it" in life.
The Challenge
Design an advocacy poster highlighting the crippling effects of student loan debt that would drive people to sign the petition.
Concept
Using a real 2021 statistic — nearly two trillion in student loans — paired with a relatable mascot and the hashtag #cancelstudentloans.
Execution
- Strong headline typography for instant attention
- Clean data visualization supporting the narrative
- Balanced layout integrating visuals, stats, and a call-to-action
- Hashtag campaign integration for social sharing
Impact
Used by a nonprofit student debt advocacy group. It became the top 5 petitions on change.org for their 2023 Wrapped: Digital Activism Edition and still currently is as of 2025.
